UT Southwestern Medical Center Brain & Cancer Center
Dallas, Texas
After conducting an extensive institutional master facilities plain, UT Southwestern identified the need to create a new, class-A space that integrates clinical care, clinical and translational research space, and academic offices for the Brain Institute and Cancer Center. This 565,000 SF facility and 1,200 space parking garage is part of Phase IV of the North Campus development at UT Southwestern. SSR has been hired to provide commissioning services for the building.
The new Brain and Cancer Center will provide support space for the growing academic and clinical Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center, develop into an internationally recognized brain institute, and establish new research programs and advanced technology.
Originally, the facility space was 300,000 SF, but with a change in plans the project size increased. With the increase in project size and a redesign of the project, the schedule has been critical to the success of this project. As part of the SSR scope, the team must coordinate with separate construction managers on the demolition of the on-site parking, construction of the overall site development, and construction of the research and clinical building and site improvements. The scope of work also includes coordination with the parking garage and the Thermal Energy Plant / support services building on the site concurrently.
SSR is commissioning the mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and technology and communications equipment and systems.
