Sentara RMH Medical Center
Harrisonburg, Virginia
Sentara RMH Medical Center is a 238-bed hospital that serves a seven-county area with more than 200,000 residents. This new facility replaced an aging facility that was no longer able to meet the needs of the community. The new hospital has 613,000 SF across six floors, and was designed to accommodate two additional floors in the future.
The hospital provides women’s and children’s services, a heart and vascular center, inpatient and outpatient surgery, pharmacy, diagnostic and imaging, and laboratory departments. The pharmacy was designed in accordance with USP 797 requirements. Technology systems include LAN, telephone (VoIP), personnel and asset tracking, nurse call/code blue, wireless voice/data, CATV, pocket page, patient education and entertainment system, overhead paging, LEC/long distance/ISP interface, security-access control and CCTV, and audio-visual.
SSR provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection design services as well as full medical technology planning and design to this replacement facility. In addition, SSRCx provided LEED facilitation and energy modeling services for the project. Sentara RMH Medical Center achieved LEED Gold® certification, and was the first LEED–certified hospital of its size in the state of Virginia.
