Our team supports BNA's multi-phase dynamic expansion plan that encompasses the airport itself, surrounding parking garages, and supporting equipment and systems.
The Greater Nashville area and the Nashville International Airport (BNA) continue to exceed projected growth numbers, year after year. As a developing “It City,” Nashville’s airport requires frequent updates to sustain the projected growth of Middle Tennessee. The Metro Nashville Airport Authority (MNAA) has launched a multi-phase dynamic expansion plan that encompasses the airport itself, surrounding parking garages, and supporting equipment and systems. With phase one of the plan complete, the facility already offers additional gates, concessions, new air freight building, improved traffic flow on the terminal roadway, and a streamlined baggage handling system.
All projects at BNA prioritize the sustainability of the campus, both in its ability to serve passengers and in its use of resources and energy. MNAA values the commissioning of all new and existing equipment to ensure systems perform as designed and that airport staff understand how to operate these systems. Our team has proven to be a key player in meeting these goals, providing mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems commissioning, monitoring-based commissioning, and building enclosure commissioning services on projects throughout the airport campus. As the Commissioning Agent for both the completed and the current phase, we are conducting components of the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED v4 BD + C and additional commissioning for the various projects. Our team reports to the owner and works directly with the LEED coordinators and Design-Build Teams.
We have been a partner throughout each phase of the expansion plan which encompasses:
New and expanded parking garages, some with Parksmart certification, the sustainability certification program specifically for parking garages through the U.S. Green Building Council
New Central Utility Plant (CUP), partially supported by an abandoned quarry that was filled with water and equipped with a heat exchanger for chiller heat rejection.
New and expanded Concourse D (six gates) equipped with Sageglass, an electrochromic coated glass that uses light sensors to shade and unshade glass to reduce glare and reduce heat gain from the exterior.
Relocated Administration Building that was relocated to a two-story building on top of a new Parking Garage to free up space for a consolidated security checkpoint in the Main Terminal.
New International Arrivals Facility, with streamlined customs and border patrol
Combined central security for all terminals
Our team has been fortunate to hold a longstanding relationship with MNAA, acting as a trusted quality assurance partner familiar with all phases of the plan. We have a proven dedication and commitment to BNA’s goals through instances such as transitioning the new central utility plant into operation, a process that could only happen after “last flight” when the airport was not in use. Our commissioning team tested both chilled and hot water equipment throughout the night to ensure that all systems were fully operational for use by the first early morning passengers.
Following the completion of phase one, we were selected to continue to provide services in future phases of the plan. Our team is supported by small business and minority-owned consultants and we work directly with the augmented staff at BNA, which comprises individuals who were hand-selected from other companies to run the BNA program. We will continue to support BNA in the many improvements to come.
