The Town of Arlington, Tennessee, has embarked on a significant infrastructure project to replace and repair bridges over a branch of Hall Creek and Hall Creek itself. This project aims to enhance traffic flow, accommodate future development, and ensure the longevity of the bridges.

 

SSR has been working with the Town for many years and has developed a strong working relationship. SSR was asked by the Town to perform assessments on the bridges after Arlington assumed responsibility for their maintenance and repair from TDOT. The bridges, built around 1956, required emergency repairs following the assessment and have been monitored for several years.

 

Replacement Bridge over Branch of Hall Creek

Design Services: The new bridge can accommodate four lanes of traffic with sidewalks on both sides, ensuring safe and efficient movement for both vehicles and pedestrians.

Anticipation of Future Development: The bridge has been widened to accommodate anticipated growth in the Arlington area.

Enhanced Structure: The new bridge, approximately three times longer than the old one at 60 feet, fits the natural channel better and addresses previous channel degradation issues caused by water flow.

 

Repairs to Existing Bridge over Hall Creek

Concrete Repairs: Minimal repairs to beams and substructure to maintain structural integrity.

Bridge Deck Repairs: Removal of asphalt, followed by necessary deck repairs and repaving.

 

SSR Services Provided

Construction Engineering and Inspection (CEI) Services

• Daily Onsite Inspection: Ensuring quality and adherence to project specifications.
• Field Testing of Materials: Comprehensive testing including ACI tests for concrete, nuclear density testing for subgrade and earthwork, base stone, asphalt, and structural backfill.

Utility Coordination

• Extensive Coordination: Managing the relocation and integration of utilities such as water mains, gas mains, and AT&T fiber/copper lines.

Bridge Design

 

The replacement bridge opened in late August. SSR has been asked by the Town to perform assessments on two additional bridges in the area. This project underscores SSR’s commitment to improving infrastructure and supporting the Town of Arlington’s growth and development.
