Cogeneration and the Built Environment, from Concept to Reality
Description:
This presentation will provide an overview of what cogeneration is, review key concepts, overview why it is important, and lay out when it is applicable. It will touch on carbon emissions and how this system can help bridge the gap between decarbonization of future design and current progress, and which construction projects would most benefit from its application. The focus is not on becoming expert cogeneration designers, rather why this system choice would be advantageous for a project, what the implications are from an architect’s perspective, and how it impacts performance.
Learning Objectives:
Define cogeneration and why it is important
Understand the efficiencies of Cogeneration (CHP) systems and inefficiencies
Learn the basics of system design with respect to space planning and application
Apply the principles learned to evaluate potential cogeneration project opportunities
