Baptist and Vanguard Health Strike Gold in Texas

|

As the first LEED Gold certified hospital in the state of Texas,Mission Trail Baptist Hospital is set to save $150,000 in annual energy costs and $1.1 million gallons of potable water per year.

Giving the project a jump start toward LEED certification was the selection of the previously developed Brooks Air Force Base site in San Antonio, which came along with a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Ready for Reuse permit. In fact, the project was able to pick up 21 of 26 points in the Sustainable Sites category.

“Walkable to local retail, food, and service establishments, the location also has city bus lines providing public transportation to the base for folks in the region,” relates Eric Sheffer, senior project manager, SSRCx, Nashville, whose firm served as the project’s LEED/sustainability consultant and energy modeler.

Now part of the new Brooks City-Base, the hospital is playing a major role in the redevelopment of this bioscience, academic, environmental and technical research zone.
