Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital Wesley Chapel: A Vision for the Future

4 minute read

Wesley Chapel in Pasco County is a rapidly growing region, with pediatric growth projected to increase by 12% by 2032. To meet this demand, Johns Hopkins is embarking on an ambitious project to build a state-of-the-art 56-bed hospital. This facility will feature a 16-room Emergency Center and ample clinic space, designed with the future in mind. The complex will include four imaging rooms, four operating rooms, and comprehensive support services, ensuring it can grow alongside the community.

Project Details

The total project cost is estimated at $172 million, covering 230,000 SF. The masterplan also includes provisions for a future tower addition, potentially expanding the facility by an additional 220,000 square feet. This forward-thinking approach ensures that the hospital can adapt to the community’s evolving needs.

Design and Planning

This project follows a Target Value Design approach, where all stakeholders agree on the budget at the outset, ensuring financial alignment throughout the project. SSR is providing Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) services, along with technology and medical equipment planning (MEQ). Our involvement also includes sustainability and energy modeling, thanks to a master services agreement with the architect. This integrated process ensures a high-quality outcome for the client.

Johns Hopkins Specifications

Johns Hopkins has set detailed specifications and owner requirements to ensure the facility meets their high standards. The design phase began in October 2024, with construction documents scheduled for release in October 2025.

Pediatric Focus

A key aspect of this project is its focus on pediatric care. The design emphasizes the visual aspects of the hospital, incorporating more windows and a sophisticated approach to lighting. Increased glazing and sound attenuators are also included to create a calming and healing environment for young patients.

This project represents a significant investment in the future of pediatric healthcare in Wesley Chapel, promising a facility that is both innovative and deeply attuned to the needs of its community.
