Enhancing fan and player experiences with modern facilities
The Cincinnati Open, hosted at a 125-year-old tennis facility, is undergoing a comprehensive renovation to elevate the experience for both fans and players ahead of the 2025 tournament. This ambitious project includes reimagined stadiums, park-like landscaping, additional sunken courts, a new Clubhouse, and enhanced fan amenities.
The renovation will significantly expand the facility, adding 10 new courts to accommodate the expanded 96-player ATP and WTA singles fields, bringing the total to 31 courts. A standout feature is the new two-story, player-facing Clubhouse, which will offer lounge and restaurant spaces, wellness and recovery rooms, and upgraded locker rooms for players and coaches. Additionally, the Paul Flory Player Center will undergo significant upgrades, including expanded locker rooms and a state-of-the-art fitness center. A new operations center will streamline behind-the-scenes activities, ensuring the smooth running of the tournament.
The mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) scope of the project is extensive. Electrically, the renovation includes new lighting, power systems, and food service equipment, all coordinated with utility services to ensure seamless integration. Mechanically, spaces are being reconfigured with new equipment, and a mechanical yard adjacent to the buildings will house various systems, presenting coordination challenges with other utilities. Plumbing upgrades will touch almost every bathroom on site, replacing fixtures such as toilets and sinks to enhance the overall experience.
On the technology front, the renovation will support various broadcast and media needs across the 31 courts, new state of the art broadcast studio, interview spaces along with extensive redesign of the structured cabling, AV, broadcast and security systems site wide. Each match court will be equipped with 30 – 45 cameras for broadcast, live streaming, and ball tracking cameras for officiating and video review as well as upgraded sound systems supporting each court individually while also tying them back into the campus wide audio system. Much planning and forethought went into supporting temporary equipment during the event that will enhance the fan experience with scoreboards, video boards, and upgraded security systems, including player credentials with access control zones. The project also plans for future advancements and upgrades, ensuring the facility remains state-of-the-art. Additionally, a TV truck compound will support 30+ broadcast and support trailers, meeting the tournament’s extensive media needs.
This project, part of the second phase of the transformation, follows earlier upgrades completed for the 2024 tournament, including Center Court enhancements and new practice courts. Construction is scheduled to be completed by July, just in time for the August tournament, ensuring the Cincinnati Open remains a premier event in the tennis calendar.
