A Recap of SSR’s KYTN Water Professionals Conference Experience
The annual Kentucky Tennessee Water Professionals Conference (WPC) is one of my favorite weeks of the year. The conference is always event packed and a great opportunity to see clients and connect with industry friends. The SSR water team is often well represented with colleagues serving on various boards and planning committees as well as giving technical presentations, and this year in Lexington was no different.
Technical Sessions
As in past years, the SSR team gave multiple presentations at conference.
All Hands to the Pump: A Collaborative Effort to Reduce Pump Operation Costs
Presenters: Andy Hawken, Ashley Pelham Mallela, and CUD
Got Gripes about Disinfectant Pipes? A Practical Guide for Owners and Engineers
Presenters: Richard Chappell and Serena Hostetter
Murfreesboro Biosolids Master Plan
Presenters: Rob Lantz and John Strickland (City of Murfreesboro)
Conference Involvement
As the KYTN Student Committee co-chair, Serena was responsible for making sure the Student Poster Competition stayed on track. Her involvement also allowed SSR to spend time mentoring the students that came by. (We may have even hired one of them to work part-time for the semester!)
If you didn’t see much of Luke Williams around the conference, it’s because he was busy keeping things going behind the scenes in the Speaker Ready room. (Luke is the current KYTN AWWA Treasurer.)
Social Events
We had a great time at Sunday’s Water for Life event at Jacobson Park. We always enjoy the opportunity to promote the significance of water in the local community. Attended by the public, the event is an opportunity for both children and adults to glean new understandings of our water system by tasting, touching, and experiencing all things water.
Everyone on our team really enjoyed the social event at Rupp Arena. It was a neat experience to get to shoot hoops on such an iconic court. Check out Luke’s vintage Wildcat shirt!
It was a great week and we’re already making plans for the 2023 conference in Memphis, hope to see you there!
