Reducing Disinfection Byproducts (DBP)
Stones River Water Treatment Plant and Smith Seckman Reid, Inc. conducted a study of the water treatment plant and distribution system aimed at reducing disinfection byproducts. This was necessary to maintain compliance with the federal Stage 2 Disinfection Byproduct Rule (DPBR). After examining the results of the data, it was determined that Stones River had three solutions: 1.) feeding hydrogen peroxide at the plant in lieu of sodium hypochlorite for pre-oxidation; 2.) replacement of GAC contractor media more frequently; and 3.) aeration systems in the distribution tank(s).
In a recent article in Straight from the Tap, SSR engineers Lindsay Bryant, Mike Bernard, and Joe Griffey explore these three possible solutions. Follow the link below to read the original article in its entirety.
