David Stymiest, PE, CHFM, CHSP, FASHE
Senior Consultant
Dave spent his first 30 years as a hospital engineer, contractor, and consulting engineer. He joined SSR in 2000 as a Senior Consultant for facilities engineering and management. With more than 40 years of experience, he has a unique perspective on all facets of a healthcare facility’s operation, construction, maintenance, engineering, and management.
Dave is widely known for his professional accomplishments including his recognition as a Fellow by the American Society of Hospital Engineering (ASHE). Also, he is Certified as a Hospital Facility Manager (CHFM) by the American Hospital Association. He has been named a Certified Healthcare Safety Professional (CHSP) by the International Board for Certification of Safety Managers. Dave is a Primary Voting Member and was the 10-year Chairman of the National Fire Protection Association’s (NFPA) 110 and 111 standards committee.
He is a nationally recognized author, speaker, and trainer in several fields including of standby power systems. Dave co-authored Facilities Engineering and Management Handbook for Commercial, Industrial and Institutional Buildings published by McGraw-Hill. Dave has published over 50 articles in various industry engineering publications including Health Facilities Management and ASHE Management Monographs.
He earned both a Bachelor of Science in Electric Power Engineering and a Master of Engineering in Electrical Power Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1972 and 1973. In 1984, he completed a Certificate of Special Studies in Administration and Management from Harvard University, and is a registered professional engineer in three states.
Dave says that his hobbies are on the tame side. He is passionate about spending time with his family, enjoys reading and writing, and listening to “The Boss.” Annually you can find him riding in his Mardi Gras Krewe parade and celebrating afterwards at his favorite restaurant, Emeril’s, in New Orleans.
