Methodist Selects OB Hospital Build Team
Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare has announced it has selected the design and construction team to build its new $137 million hospital in Olive Branch, and that the team is expected to break ground on the project Oct. 19.
Methodist, which already has six hospitals in the Memphis metro area, won approval in July from the Mississippi Department of Health to begin construction on the four-story, 100-bed hospital, which will be at U.S. 78 and Bethel Road and is expected to employ about 480 people.
Recent population increases have brought expanded health care services to outlying counties such as DeSoto, whose population grew 50.4 percent between 2000 and 2010, from 107,199 to 161,252, and is expected to reach 172,226 by 2012, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
Southaven’s 339-bed Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto, which employs about 1,800 workers, maintains one of the busiest emergency departments in the Mid-South and its trauma status was recently upgraded to handle more intakes.
