Our Mission

Making a positive difference for our colleagues, clients, and communities.

100% Colleague-Owned

Client Impact

Working with an owner is different. Clients benefit from our ownership culture through the exceptional quality and dedication to our work. We are motivated to go above and beyond, ensuring that every project we undertake meets industry professional standards of excellence. This translates to innovative solutions, meticulous attention to detail, and a strong commitment to your success.

100% On Day One

As a 100% colleague-owned firm, all colleagues participate in the Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP), providing everyone with an ownership interest in the company. At SSR, this means every colleague has a personal stake in our collective success from day one.

Success Benefits Us All

Each member of our team is an owner from day one. This ownership culture fosters a deep sense of responsibility, engagement, and dedication to one another, as well as our clients and projects. We work collaboratively, support each other, and celebrate our shared achievements, knowing that our success directly benefits everyone.

Our Values

Working Together

We are SSROne. This collaborative culture allows our differences to drive smarter decisions, increase innovation, and strengthen performance.

Improving Always

We learn and adapt as an organization and as individuals to elevate our industry and careers.

Assuring Trust

We are reliable and responsive. We take ownership to create success for our clients, partners, and colleagues.

Living Fully

We strive for balance and celebrate all aspects of life.

Raising The Bar

We are resourceful and create exceptional experiences and outstanding results for our clients.

Our history

Engineering a new opportunity.

In 1967, our four founders — Andy Reid, Bobby Smith, Lester Smith, and Tom Seckman — were seeking ownership opportunities. Together, they started a new engineering venture with the goal of providing broad ownership opportunities. On February 1, 1968, Smith Seckman Reid, Inc. (SSR) officially opened for business. In 2016, nearly five decades later, we became 100% ESOP-owned, leaning into the founders' vision of ownership for the next generation.

People + Careers

We make a great team.

We are dedicated to fostering a collaborative and supportive environment where everyone thrives. As a 100% colleague-owned firm, every team member has a stake in our success. We're always looking for talented individuals to join our team and help us deliver exceptional results for our clients and one another.

IMPACT

Our commitment to the future.

We are focused on making a positive impact through sustainability, our people, and how we operate our business. This challenges us to continuously connect with our clients and colleagues in a meaningful way. We are proud to illustrate the importance of our actions in our annual IMPACT report.

IMPACT

Greenhouse Gas Reporting

We are committed to reducing our environmental impact through greenhouse gas (GHG) reporting and sustainable practices. Our goal is to create a positive environmental legacy while delivering innovative solutions for our clients.

Making A Difference

It's what we do.

From the meaningful impact of our work to supporting organizations and causes that make a difference — giving back is what we do. Our community giving efforts reflect our commitment to making a positive impact beyond projects, specifically in the areas of pediatric healthcare, water, and workforce development.

Making A Difference

Pediatric Healthcare

We’re all about giving back to the pediatric healthcare industry in fun and impactful ways. Our toy drives bring smiles and a bit of magic to kids in hospitals. Plus, our owners give back by volunteering — whether it’s reading stories, organizing events, or just being there to support families — we are making a difference in pediatric healthcare.

Making A Difference

Water for all.

We’re passionate about water — intentionally promoting conservation efforts and bringing clean water to communities in need. One of our standout efforts was our trip to Guatemala, where we helped install a clean water well. This project was more than just about providing water — it was about transforming lives.

Making A Difference

Workforce Development

Our owners work with national, state, and local organizations to attract, develop, and retain talent and evolve industry regulations. It’s about promoting the purpose and positive impact of our work to ensure a future pipeline of professionals in the industry.
